Courting Candle

I have a random likeness for the Orvis catalogue, it all started in elementary school when I would take my dad's magazine just to see the cute Springer Spaniels.

Last night I stumbled upon this unique candle. Since you all know I love a history behind home accents, or anything for that matter--you'll know this is right up my alley.

It's called a Courting Candle and now I want one.

Orvis says they date back to the 1600s, and were used by protective parents to regulate the time a suitor spent with a young daughter. How would they do so, you ask? Well, the flame extinguishes itself when it reaches the clip on the vintage-design stand.

The candle lasts 70 hours and is made from pure beeswax. So if you have a 16-year old girl or need to limit your late night time with a boyfriend, this is the candle for you (wink wink).

Crepes, blessed crepes

Mark my word: the day I build a custom home, these crepe griddles will be on my counter top!

It all started at an after-school job at European Connection. Next thing you know, I was obsessed with the thin pancakes and had discovered Nutella. I must mention that I was dang good at spinning out those thangs! {All in the wrist I tell ya, all in the wrist!}

For now, I'll have to use this or this...which I've been pleased with.

I even have to make a quarterly trip up to EC at Jordan's Landing just to get my fix. I'm known to tell the employees just how I like my crepe done.

Other news in the crepe world: Maestro's gelateria in Provo is serving up sweet crepes.

Revisited: NYC Give-a-way of Goodness

Memorial Day seems like ages ago, but don't think Project Domestication forgot about the NYC Give-a-way of Goodness
I bet you're wondering what the winners received. Only pictures can tell…

Something Usable (en la kitchen): Dean and DeLuca's Ravioli Stamp
Something Wearable: Pashmina purchased on the streets of the Fashion District
Something Delectable: Crumbs' Artie Lange Cupcakes

Hope you ladies enjoy them. As of yesterday afternoon, they were all ordered/shipped.
{Lo ciento for being such a mega-slacker-slash-procrastinator. Please, please forgive.}

I sense a fall give-a-way in the air…

No more drippy lettuce

I use this several times a week and love it!

Tell me... I'm curious

"If you could read only three "domestic-type" blogs each day (assuming they posted every day) what would they be?"

Leave your answers in the comments section!

{props to a certain amiga for our IM convo today that led me to this post!}
{pps: this isn't me fishing for a compliment, so even if you LOVE Project Domestication that much, don't include it in your answer ;)}

Wasabi Goodness!

A snack isn't a snack if it doesn't taste good. And heaven knows there aren't enough meals in the day... at least that is what the folks over at PopChips tell me.

The mom-in-law introduced me to this fine snack tonight. I tried the Wasabi Rice Chips and found myself nearing the end of the bag. {Don't tell anyone}

They're not baked nor fried, but popped. They come in potato, corn and rice with a smorgesboard of flavorings!

Looks like they are poppin' up everywhere too. Find the nearest store or buy 'em on amazon.com

Bustin' Food Myths and More

Ever wondered if the five-second rule for dropping your food was true? I have. And I'm dang curious to know details. Right after the finale of The Next Food Network Star, I discovered this gem. A new series on the Food Network called Food Detectives with Ted Allen. Basically Tim Breaks down food myths, pop culture, cultures and mysteries of food we eat.

Other topics from the first episode were how to remedy yourself (your mouth) after eating really hot (spicy) food, does eating celery really burn calories and does baking soda really eliminate odor.

It's way cool and worth your watch. Give it a try and let me know what you think! It airs again July 31 at 8:30 e/p.

Saffron

Just got me some saffron, gonna make me some risotto.
{Pure bliss!}

Foreign Cooking Terms Quiz

I was delighted to find this quiz on the MIX site. I love this site, and obviously am biased as the former editor. My successor is really pumping out some great content. I think you'll love it!

According to my score, I'm a "Conversational Cook." Looks like I need to hit the books.

Take it and let PD know how you did!

The kitchen craft, gadget corner and 30 minute meal recipe sections are all worth a peek, too.

Too cute to eat?

..made these for my sweet sisters' baby shower.
Once again, the marshmallow fondant makes an appearance in my kitchen!
I thought about editing and saturating these in Photoshop, but decided to show them in their true colors.

Babycakes in Inc. Magazine

Babycakes, by far one of my favorite NYC cupcake spots, has been featured in Inc. Magazine. Owner Erin McKenna is even on the cover. It's an interesting read. Gracias to Cupcakes Takes The Cake for the heads up!

Williams-Sonoma Semiannual Home Sale

That's right, WS is having their Semiannual Home Sale. Here's what I snapped with my camera phone at the Riverwoods location.

I'm holding back on buying the blue toille table cloth. Remember me mentioning it here? It's now $49. There is hope--mi Madre keeps telling me that if I wait another week it will be 75% off.

Let's hope Mom is right on this one.

2009 Wilton Yearbook

It's here! Now I have to figure out the cheapest place to get it!
I'm thinking Robert's on a 50% off day!
